On 17 February 2026, the Department of Journalism and Media Communication (JMC) stepped beyond the classroom and into the living history of Old Dhaka through a day-long academic field trip titled
“SDG-Aligned Field Trip: Tradition under Transformation — Craftsmanship and Community Life in Old Dhaka.”

This immersive visit connected theory with lived reality. Students explored how heritage, craftsmanship, and everyday community life intersect with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), observing how tradition adapts under the pressures of modern transformation.

From Jagannath University to the historic Ahsan Manzil, and along the banks of the Buriganga River, learning unfolded in motion. Students documented stories, engaged with artisans and local communities, and critically reflected on cultural sustainability, urban change, and social continuity.

This field trip reinforced a core principle of journalism education:
learning is strongest when it is experienced, stories are most powerful when they are documented, and tradition is best understood when seen in transformation.

The Department remains committed to experiential, SDG-aligned academic initiatives that bridge classroom knowledge with real-world contexts and community narratives.
