Freshers' Orientation Program for Summer 2025

A vibrant and inspiring orientation program was held on June 22, 2025, to welcome the new faces of Batch-250 to the Department of Journalism and Media Communication (JMC) at Green University of Bangladesh. The event took place at the JMC Media Lab and marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the freshers.

The orientation was chaired by Dr. Habib Mohammad Ali, Chairperson of the Department and honored by the presence of Captain (Navy) Shaikh Mohammad Salahuddin (TAS), NGP, psc (Retd.), Registrar of GUB, as the Chief Guest. Esteemed faculty members and media professionals including Professor Dr. Nister Jahan Kabir, Dr. Md. Aliur Rahman and RTV news presenter Ms. Habiba Afroz shared valuable insights on the role of journalism in shaping society.

Chief Guest Captain Salahuddin emphasized the importance of ethical journalism and encouraged students to focus not only on academic excellence but also on acquiring human values and modern skills to become responsible citizens.

The program featured a number of engaging and memorable segments. It began with the screening of the Department of JMC’s official documentary, presented by Media Lab Coordinator Kazi Mahadi Muntasir, which offered the freshers an inspiring glimpse into the department’s journey, achievements, and vision for the future. This was followed by a detailed JMC presentation by JMC Media Club Moderator Monjur Kibriya Bhuiyan, who highlighted the department's activities, student opportunities, and the role of the media club in shaping hands-on experiences. Motivational speeches were delivered by JMC Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor Ms. Farzana Yasmin, proud JMC alumna and Alumni Association President Ms. Sabrina Nowrin Limu, along with other faculty members, university mentors, and alumni. Their words inspired the freshers to make the most of their academic journey and to embrace the values of journalism with passion and integrity. Batch-251 warmly welcomed the freshers with flowers, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere. The department also recognized the contributions of students Hadiuzzaman, Rohan Hawlader, and Barkatullah with certificates of appreciation. The event was hosted by Sumaiya Sultana Antara and Jubayer Ahmed, and concluded joyfully with a cake-cutting ceremony and group photo sessions, capturing the spirit of unity and new beginnings.
